I grew up watching old westerns with my dad and grandpa. My hero was John Wayne and I loved seeing good triumph over evil. In almost every western there was the infamous card scene. All players were dealt their hand and one by one they fold until the final two players are left staring at each other across the table. You could sense the tension in the air as each squares off against each other trying desperately to determine who holds the winning hand.
The first player lays down his hand. One card after another until they are all face up on the table. Three kings and two jacks, a full house. Confident of his win, he looks across the table as his opponent begins to lay out his hand. He lays the first three cards down with a smirk on his face…three aces. Then he tosses the final card out in the middle of the table. The last Ace! The one card needed for the win. That one card is known as “the Ace in the hole”. In cards, The Ace in the Hole is the winning card that is held onto until it is needed. It is the sure winner played at just the right time.
